Honey

Honey is hundreds of children’s first and, likely, only Black teacher. They knew her as firm, highly reputable, artistic, and engaging, and to me, she is a cussing, rebellious/ respectable, free-spirited, praying “fast thing” that had a full life outside of school. In many ways, she is just like her first teacher, my great great grandmother, Lucy Burns.
